For the Period of December 19, 2006 to January 1, 2007

Radiological and Environmental Sciences Laboratory

Summary of Occurrence Reports

(Note: Date below indicates when notification was made of the incident) 

December 18: The Radiological and Environmental Sciences Laboratory improperly completed shipping documents and package labeling for a small quantity of radioactive material that was shipped from Idaho to Argonne National Laboratory. There was no danger because the material was shipped in an appropriate package. No further limited quantity shipments of radioactive material will be initiated until the cause of the improper documentation and labeling is determined and procedures are corrected to prevent future incidents. Environmental Management

(No Occurrence Reports were issued during this time period)

Operational Status

Waste Shipments: Through December 31, 2006, a cumulative total of 14,365 cubic meters of transuranic waste has been shipped from Idaho’s Advanced Mixed Waste Treatment Project (AMWTP) to the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant in New Mexico for disposal. The AMWTP made six shipments the week of January 6, 2007.
 
Nuclear Energy

Idaho National Laboratory

Operational Status

Advanced Test Reactor restarted: The Advanced Test Reactor, which performs materials testing for the nuclear Navy and produces medical and industrial isotopes, was restarted on Dec. 24, 2006, after a maintenance outage.
