Calling All Clean Energy Advocates! Every day Idaho legislators in the Statehouse learn about, debate, and vote on issues that impact the lives of Idahoans across the state.  Elected lawmakers make these decisions on behalf of their many constituents, but in order to do this well, they need to hear from those constituents.  They need to hear from YOU.

Unfortunately, it’s often hard to find the time to tell our legislators, face-to-face, our positions on issues facing Idaho.  At the Snake River Alliance, we advocate day in and day out for a clean energy future for Idaho.  We participate in meetings and processes at the Legislature, as well as the Public Utilities Commission, electric utilities, the City of Boise, and other venues for discourse and action on energy and conservation issues.  We are a voice for our members across the state, and as the only local organization fully devoted to energy issues, that voice is crucial. 

But there’s nothing more powerful than our members’ voices.

That’s why the Snake River Alliance partners with clean energy advocates from a variety of Idaho-based businesses and organizations every year within the framework of an inspiring network called the Idaho Energy Collaborative to organize an “Energy Lobby Day” at the Capitol.  This event gives Idahoans the chance to fill the halls of the Statehouse and provide information to legislators on the benefits of investing in clean energy.  Energy Lobby Day is the only coordinated day of action dedicated to clean energy at the Capitol during the entire legislative session, and it’s our one chance to bring clean energy issues to the forefront of lawmakers’ minds.  This is important.  And we want YOU to be a part of it!

Training sessions will be held the week prior to this event to help prepare for this often intimidating but exciting experience.  The trainings cover the basics of how the Legislature functions, how the Capitol building is laid out, and what the current topics of debate are regarding energy in the Idaho Legislature.  Attendees will leave the training feeling well equipped as grassroots lobbyists to speak on energy issues with their representatives.

Don’t miss this opportunity to make your voice—yes, YOUR voice—heard by legislators this session.  We all know what we’d like to see in Idaho’s energy future: the elimination of the coal-fired power that’s now polluting our region’s air, land, water and people and a transition to clean, safe, affordable energy generation and smart, efficient use of our electricity.  We have the vision—now let’s take ACTION!
