Idaho Energy Update Sept. 26: AEHI Delays NRC Filing
By Sandy Pederson @ 5:07 PM :: 88 Views :: Clean and Renewable Energy, Bruneau nuclear reactor, Idaho Energy Updates
|
|
The developer of the proposed Elmore County nuclear reactor has notified federal regulators that he’ll submit his permit application this time next year rather than this time this year, as originally proposed. AEHI still hasn’t told the feds what kind of reactor it hopes to use for its Idaho project. Meanwhile, the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality is looking for public input on a proposed coal gasification plant in Power County, and Idaho Power and its clean energy partners are poised to begin a month of energy efficiency awareness programs in October.

ATTEND THE ELMORE HEARINGS
By Sandy Pederson @ 8:41 AM :: 1019 Views :: Nuclear Power, Nuclear Waste and Contamination, Idaho Energy Updates, Action Alert!
|
The Snake River Alliance held a public meeting at the Mountain Home Library on July 1st from 6-8:30 pm to discuss AEHI's proposal for a nuclear power plant on the Snake River near Hammett. We are in the process of helping a group of citizens, who attended the meeting, from Elmore and Owyhee Counties form their own coalition to oppose the plant. If you want to be part of this group please contact the Alliance.
To act today, contact the policy makers who will decide on whether the plant is allowed or not:

Idaho Energy Update Sept. 5: Soaring Power Bills and Nuke Plant Rezoning
By Sandy Pederson @ 6:02 PM :: 194 Views :: Nuclear Power, Clean and Renewable Energy, Bruneau nuclear reactor, Idaho Energy Updates
|

The Idaho Public Utilities Commission will soon consider holding workshops to address the growing challenge of Idahoans struggling to pay soaring electricity and gas bills. The PUC has been asked by its staff to open a case to explore ways to provide relief to those facing rate increases coming at them so fast they’re struggling to cope, or are facing late fees, disconnects, or other repercussions. Meanwhile, The Elmore County Planning and Zoning Commission is planning on multiple hearings in October as it prepares to review a rezoning request by developers of a proposed nuclear reactor above the Snake River south of Mountain Home.

Idaho Energy Update Aug. 15: Nuke Plant Backer Seeks Elmore County Rezone
By Sandy Pederson @ 2:25 PM :: 339 Views :: Clean and Renewable Energy, Bruneau nuclear reactor, Idaho Energy Updates
|
The developer of the proposed Idaho nuclear reactor finally filed his application to rezone the property in Elmore County, beginning what is expected to be a long haul for all parties as Idaho decides whether to cast its lot with nuclear power or whether to embrace sustainable energy resources. Meanwhile, the Public Utilities Commission has approved Idaho Power’s request to import more than 80MW of pretty expensive power from Montana during Idaho’s peak season, and Rocky Mountain Power and the PUC are looking for public comment on a proposed transmission line in SE Idaho.

Idaho Energy Update Aug. 1: Good Efficiency News, Less So On Rates
By Sandy Pederson @ 4:43 PM :: 419 Views :: Clean and Renewable Energy, Idaho Energy Updates, SRA News Releases

Idaho Power told the Securities and Exchange Commission its credit rating is taking a beating because the company has struggled to recover rising power costs. Meanwhile, the PUC has set an Aug. 8 deadline for those wanting to intervene in Idaho Power’s rate case. And Avista Corp., which serves much of north Idaho, came in with its own power cost adjustment that could lead to a rate hike. The good news: The Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance issued its annual report, which shows greater-than-expected energy efficiency gains across our region.

Idaho Energy Update July 11: Nuke Plant Saga Continues
By Sandy Pederson @ 5:09 PM :: 497 Views :: Nuclear Power, Clean and Renewable Energy, Bruneau nuclear reactor, Idaho Energy Updates

|
The saga of Idaho’s nomad nuclear power plant continues to drag on, with the plant’s developer offering up yet another would-be financial angel – but the missing ingredient is once again the money. Meanwhile, you can read the developer’s short note to Idaho Legislators in which he excused himself from appearing before the Interim Energy Committee at the last minute, saying he was “busy.” On the utility side, Idaho Power is asking the PUC for permission to buy about 83MW of summer peak power from Montana to deal with those high summertime loads, and the PUC will be holding a workshop this week to look into how to spend a half-million dollars made available when Idaho Power sold surplus pollution credits – a good thing. And the sale price for Intermountain Gas was $328 million. Read on for details on these and other energy issues.
