Would-Be Elmore Nuke Plant Financier Shutting Its Doors
By Liz Woodruff @ 3:14 PM :: 905 Views :: Nuclear Power, Bruneau nuclear reactor, SRA News Releases
The Texas firm that Elmore County nuclear reactor developers identified less than a year ago as their new financial partner told the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Wednesday that it may restructure but for now “is no longer conducting business operations and is in the process of winding up.” The closure of Powered Corporation of Houston is yet more evidence that Alternate Energy Holdings, Inc., a recent transplant from Virginia and would-be developer of a 1,600MW nuclear reactor atop the Snake River outside of Hammett, is incapable of raising cash for its mystery reactor, said Snake River Alliance Executive Director Andrea Shipley.

For Immediate Release: Elmore Commissioners Consider Amendment to Elmore County Comprehensive Plan
By Liz Woodruff @ 9:28 AM :: 796 Views :: Nuclear Power, SRA News Releases

Elmore County commissioners on Monday submitted a request to the Planning and Zoning commissioners to examine possible changes to the current comprehensive land use plan’s identification of areas for industrial development. By so doing they acknowledged that the current application to build a nuclear reactor along the Snake River is in violation of the comprehensive plan and their request means the plan, which took several years to develop with countywide input, would have to be significantly altered to allow for the proposed facility.

Elmore Commissioners Express Concerns about Nuke Rezoning

Elmore County commissioners on Monday raised serious questions about whether to rezone 1,300 acres of prime agricultural land for a speculative nuclear reactor, suggesting the project may fly in the face of the county’s comprehensive plan. Commissioners deferred a vote on the project, however, until next Monday.

Thirty Years Later Nuclear Dangers Still Threaten Idaho
By Liz Woodruff @ 10:10 AM :: 858 Views :: SRA News Releases
Boise, ID—Early in the morning of March 28, 1979, a series of equipment malfunctions and worker errors led to the partial meltdown of the Three-Mile Island Unit 2 nuclear reactor near Middletown, Pennsylvania. A harrowing week of uncertainty and fear followed, as the reactor’s owners, government regulators, and the public struggled to respond appropriately.

Within weeks, the accident helped spur a handful of people to found the Snake River Alliance. “We have always been proud of our founders’ vision, care, and leadership,” said Andrea Shipley, Alliance director. “Idaho would be a very different place today without our activism.”

AEHI Stock Filing Late and Incorrect
By Liz Woodruff @ 10:14 PM :: 1205 Views :: Nuclear Power, SRA News Releases
Alternate Energy Holdings' latest filing with the U.S. Securities Exchange Commission on its attempt to raise money from investors for its Elmore County nuclear reactor was filed months late and did not fess up to a then pending lawsuit. Mistakes like these are characteristic of AEHI and prove the company is certainly not credible enough to build a nuclear power plant, the Snake River Alliance said.

Elmore Nuke Plant Developer Delays Rezoning Hearing
By @ 4:52 PM :: 1369 Views :: Nuclear Power, Bruneau nuclear reactor, SRA News Releases
The developer of a proposed nuclear power plant near Mountain Home asked the Elmore County Commission to delay a hearing on his failing rezoning request from Feb. 11 to sometime in April. A consultant for Alternate Energy Holdings, Inc., told County Commissioners that CEO Don Gillispie’s travel schedule prevents his attendance until this spring. AEHI suffered a serious setback in November when the Elmore County Planning & Zoning Commission voted 4-2 to recommend the County Commission deny its request to rezone more than 1,300 acres of prime Snake River farmland from agricultural to heavy industrial to accommodate the ill-conceived nuclear reactor.
