Boise, Idaho -- Idaho's downwinders turned out in force Sunday afternoon to share their concerns with the government agencies responsible for Divine Strake. The explosive experiment slated for the Nevada desert has many worried they are once again in the path of radioactive fallout.

Utah leaders ask for public meetings to explain 'Divine Strake'

Daily Herald, The Associated Press, December 5, 2006...WASHINGTON -- Utah officials are pressing the federal government to make good on a promise to hold meetings in Utah before settling plans for a non-nuclear explosion to test bunker-buster bombs at the Nevada Test Site. Utah Democratic Rep. Jim Matheson and Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch said the Defense Threat Reduction Agency promised to explain the explosion, dubbed "Divine Strake," during meetings in northern and southern Utah around mid-December.

HURRICANE - A study conducted by several agencies and researchers, including University of Utah professor Joseph L. Lyon, indicates a much stronger association than previously believed between fallout from testing at the Nevada Test Site during the 1950s and thyroid conditions.

The news out of Washington is a baffling set of contradictions. The Federal Emergency Management Agency freely and hurriedly ladled out $1.4 billion in aid to hundreds of ineligible Katrina hurricane claimants—call it fraud—and just as quickly peeled off $60,000 in compensation to families of 24 Iraqis shot and killed in Haditha by U.S. Marines who're being investigated for murder.
