BOISE – Friday’s announcement by the Idaho Energy Complex that it’s bailing out of Owyhee County in favor of adjacent Elmore County should send chills through the new target for the proposed merchant nuclear power plant, the Snake River Alliance said. “The last thing Idaho needs is a nomad nuclear power plant developer bouncing from county to county, looking for the best deal for his outrageously bad idea,” Alliance Executive Director Andrea Shipley said.

Idaho Energy Update: March 7, 2008
By @ 6:42 PM :: 688 Views :: 0 Comments :: :: Nuclear Power, Clean and Renewable Energy, Bruneau nuclear reactor, Idaho Energy Updates
A week after a Senate committee voted against bills to promote energy efficient schools and state buildings, the full Senate killed a resolution to engage Idaho in climate change issues and promote renewable energy. Meanwhile, the House couldn’t vote fast enough to grant French-subsidized nuclear giant Areva a pair of sweet tax deals. On the upside, Rocky Mountain Power asked the Public Utilities Commission to approve a request to ramp up its energy efficiency programs in eastern Idaho, and Rich Rayhill, one of Idaho’s leading proponents of renewable energy, will give a presentation on “Renewable Energy Opportunities in Idaho” at a House panel Monday afternoon.

Areva, a giant nuclear corporation controlled by the French government, first saw how compliant Idaho’s state and local governments can be when it came here to push the Global Nuclear Energy Partnership. Now it’s come back to eastern Idaho to look for a building site—and financial incentives—for a uranium enrichment plant.

Legislators nudged a handful of helpful energy bills toward approval this week, while the Public Utilities Commission signed off on a prolonged settlement agreement dealing with Idaho utilities and wind developers, and the developers of the proposed Bruneau nuclear power plant say they’ve finally paid the $50,000 they promised Owyhee County way back in December.

MidAmerican's Idaho Pullout Shows AEHI Nuclear is a Bad Investment
By @ 6:15 PM :: 742 Views :: 0 Comments :: :: Nuclear Power, Clean and Renewable Energy, SRA News Releases, Energy Intelligence News Releases
MidAmerican Energy announced Sunday they’re withdrawing plans to develop a nuclear power plant northwest of Boise in Payette County. It’s a prudent business decision, and one that Don Gillispie and his colleagues and investors at Alternate Energy Holdings Inc. (AEHI) should heed as they consider the wisdom of building a nuclear plant on the shores of C.J. Strike Reservoir near Bruneau.

By @ 3:44 PM :: 726 Views :: 0 Comments :: :: Nuclear Power, Clean and Renewable Energy, SRA News Releases, Energy Intelligence News Releases
Advocates of a nuclear power “renaissance” are basing their appeals on the notion that nuclear power will be an inexpensive way to get new baseload capacity and to combat global warming. However, MidAmerican Nuclear Energy Company, owned by Warren Buffett, has ended its pursuit of a nuclear energy facility in Payette County after the company spent $13 million researching the viability of the location.

By @ 11:01 AM :: 964 Views :: 0 Comments :: :: Nuclear Power, Clean and Renewable Energy, SRA News Releases, Energy Intelligence News Releases
News that one of the nation’s largest utility companies is considering Payette County for a mega-nuclear power plant raises serious questions about how Idaho plans for its energy future and who is in charge of reviewing large power plants that pose long-term environmental and health risks in Idaho and beyond, the Snake River Alliance said.
