NUKE PLANT DEVELOPER SEEKS DEFERMENT AND WAIVER FROM OWYHEE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
Virginia-based Alternate Energy Holdings Incorporated (AEHI) this morning presented the Owyhee County Commissioners with an incomplete conditional use permit application in its bid to build a 1,600MW nuclear reactor near C.J. Strike Reservoir and Recreation Area. If built, it would be the largest nuclear reactor in the United States.
Don Gillispie, head of AEHI and its Idaho Energy Complex project, made two requests to Owyhee County commissioners this morning. Those requests were to defer fee schedule of the conditional use permit AEHI is seeking and also to waive time set by the conditional use ordinance.
“The application must go through Owyhee County Planning and Zoning at which point the public process will begin,” said Snake River Alliance Outreach Director Ester Ceja. “This proposal has far reaching impacts in and beyond our region, and it’s critical this process be open and transparent.”
Earlier this month, AEHI announced that Cobblestone Financial, a small investment firm known for financing such ventures as bed and breakfasts and ice cream parlors, was interested in financing the nuclear plant project despite the fact AEHI had not submitted any of the permit applications and
there paperwork required by local, state, and federal agencies.
