Ban the Bomb! Historian and Activist to Speak April 1

The Idaho Peace Coalition and Snake River Alliance will host a community dinner and program on Thursday, April 1 at 6:00 p.m. at the Center for Spiritual Living, 600 N Curtis, Boise. Lawrence Wittner, author, board member of America’s largest peace organization, Peace Action, and Professor of History at State University of New York/Albany will be the featured speaker. Professor Wittner is a widely recognized expert on the history of the national and international nuclear disarmament movement. He will talk about the tremendous success enjoyed by this nonviolent citizens movement and the opportunities presented by the Obama administration. A delicious dinner will be served and childcare will be available during the program. Donations will be accepted.

Professor Wittner’s books include Rebels Against War (1969, rev. ed. 1984), Cold War America (1974, rev. ed. 1978), and American Intervention in Greece (1982). His most extensive project was a scholarly trilogy entitled The Struggle Against the Bomb (1993-2003). In 2009, he came out with an abbreviated version: Confronting the Bomb: A Short History of the World Nuclear Disarmament Movement (Stanford University Press).

The Idaho Peace Coalition is a volunteer organization founded in 2001 and dedicated to promoting peace and justice. Contact us at idahopeacecoalition@msn.com for more information.
