Elmore County kicked off its Planning and Zoning Commission review of a proposal to rezone more than 1,300 acres of agricultural land for a nuclear power plant Wednesday, but the head of the company hoping to build the reactor didn’t show up and sent his consultants instead.

Snake River Alliance Actively Pursuing Alternate Energy Holdings, Inc. Lawsuit

On August 22, 2008, the Alliance was sued by Alternative Energy Holdings, Inc. for alleged defamation of character. At this time, the Alliance has secured local legal counsel and will not be distracted from acting as Idaho’s nuclear watchdog and advocate for clean energy.

Elmore County Planning and Zoning Commission Announces Rezoning Hearing Dates

Alliance Shows Documentary Showcasing Nuclear Energy Oct. 5 at The Flicks

The Snake River Alliance announces a documentary called, A Hard Rain. The film looks at the experiences of countries overseas that have gone nuclear, debunks some of the myths of the nuclear industry including by proving that nuclear power is not safe, cheap, healthy and green and with little chance of another Chernobyl happening.

Elmore Nuke Developer Takes Liberties with Rezone Request

Alternate Energy Holdings, Inc., has filed its request to Elmore County to rezone more than 1,300 acres of prime agricultural land above Idaho’s precious Snake River into a heavy industrial zone for its nuclear reactor – setting the stage for hearings over whether the county wants to swap its rich agricultural heritage for a toxic legacy and an unnecessary power plant that so far has no Idaho market.

A new audited financial statement for the company hoping to build a nuclear reactor south of Mountain Home in Idaho portrays a company in deep financial trouble, running up debt while failing to attract the huge cash infusions required to build an energy project that has states like Florida reeling from costs as high as $14 billion.

Idaho Energy Update Aug. 1: Good Efficiency News, Less So On Rates

Idaho Power told the Securities and Exchange Commission its credit rating is taking a beating because the company has struggled to recover rising power costs. Meanwhile, the PUC has set an Aug. 8 deadline for those wanting to intervene in Idaho Power’s rate case. And Avista Corp., which serves much of north Idaho, came in with its own power cost adjustment that could lead to a rate hike. The good news: The Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance issued its annual report, which shows greater-than-expected energy efficiency gains across our region.

Nuke Plant Developer’s New Funder Has Shaky Financial Past

The Texas-based energy company selected by an Idaho nuclear power plant developer as its newest financial supporter has no history of developing power plants and last year saw its nuclear plant contract with the government of Yemen cancelled because the government didn’t think it was up to the job. It's the third time Alternate Energy Holdings has tried to convince Idahoans it has the resources for its Elmore County nuclear plant proposal, and it seems the third time won't be the charm.
