Why Idaho’s Nuclear Watchdog Isn’t Worried about Payette County Reactor -- Liz Woodruff

For about four years, the Snake River Alliance has had an almost cartoonish nemesis: Alternate Energy Holdings Incorporated. At times our work to stop AEHI has been a central effort of our organization. For example, when AEHI first came to Idaho in 2007, we weren’t sure what the company was about, and we looked into its plans closely. It quickly became apparent that AEHI was selling nothing more than a bunch of hot air (in the form of cheap stock) and that the real threat was not a nuclear reactor, but rather a scheme to take the money of hard-working Idahoans who might invest in this impossible nuclear reactor proposal.

Welcome to the Get Involved Edition of the Idaho Energy Update. A number of public comment and engagement opportunities are on tap this month, beginning with Idaho Power public meetings in four cities next week on its Integrated Resource Plan along with a PUC comment deadline on the plan set for Nov. 14. The Legislature’s Interim Energy Committee is also scheduling a day of public comment Nov. 2 and a meeting on Nov. 3 on its efforts to rewrite the 2007 Idaho Energy Plan, while the PUC is holding public hearings three cities on Idaho Power’s big 2011 rate case. Last but not least, FRIDAY IS THE DEADLINE to comment to the BLM on the huge proposed Gateway West transmission project that would span southern Idaho.

Autumn Member Dinner and Presentation on INL!

Join the Snake River Alliance for a night of good food, great company, and a new presentation on radioactive waste and cleanup at the Idaho National Lab. With Idaho in the news as a potential interim storage site for new commercial radioactive waste, it is a critical time to learn about what waste is already here. Find out what’s happening with 750,000 barrels of plutonium-contaminated waste dumped in unlined pits and trenches a...bove the Snake River Aquifer. Get an update on liquid high-level waste. The Alliance works diligently to monitor current clean-up efforts and to make sure the public is aware of Department of Energy’s environmental hazards. Our Fall Member Dinner will feature an informative and timely presentation by our nuclear program director, Beatrice Brailsford, who has worked for the Alliance for nearly 25 years. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn more about what sits above Idaho’s drinking water.
