Legislators nudged a handful of helpful energy bills toward approval this week, while the Public Utilities Commission signed off on a prolonged settlement agreement dealing with Idaho utilities and wind developers, and the developers of the proposed Bruneau nuclear power plant say they’ve finally paid the $50,000 they promised Owyhee County way back in December.

Owyhee County to Bruneau Nuclear Plant Developer: Pay Up!

Developers of the proposed Owyhee County nuclear power plant have ignored three requests by county officials to make a payment on the mounting costs of processing the power plant application, the Snake River Alliance has learned.

Owyhee County, which has the dubious distinction of being targeted for Idaho’s first commercial nuclear power plant, recently became the state’s first county to adopt an energy plan to develop its clean energy resources.

Owyhee Nuke Plant Developers Refuse to Comply with Approval Process to Build Towers

Two towers have been built in Owyhee County contrary to Owyhee County’s denial of the towers in early November. One tower is a cellular tower, although there is no contract with a cellular company. The other tower is a meteorological tower designed to gather wind and other data required to process an application to build what could become Idaho’s first commercial nuclear power plant.

Nuke Plant Developer Seeks Deferment and Waiver from Owyhee County Commissioners

Virginia-based Alternate Energy Holdings Incorporated (AEHI) this morning presented the Owyhee County Commissioners with an incomplete conditional use permit application in its bid to build a 1,600MW nuclear reactor near C.J. Strike Reservoir and Recreation Area. If built, it would be the largest nuclear reactor in the United States.

Start-up company pursues plan for nuke plant near Bruneau

On a rainy day, Don Gillispie looks over a remote hay field southwest of Mountain Home. He has a grand plan for this field. Gillispie hopes that by 2015, this farmland, with its sweeping vistas of the Owyhee Mountains, will be home to the nation's largest nuclear power plant.
